Seia qualified to this competition in March by coming 2nd at the Regional Championships, qualifying her to be part of the South East team.

Seia Performed well in Birmingham and came 39th.  Seia was the highest scoring South East gymnast at this competition.

This was the first time that Pippa & Brielle have competed for the South East. Congratulations to them both and their coach Jo!

Emmeline Anghileri traveled to Dublin to compete in the All Around final of the Irish Championships. After a long competition Em achieved an excellent 2nd place. Em competed in the Minor section which is for girls who will be 12 or 13 this year, Em does not turn 12 untill November, so was one of the youngest competitors in the category.

Emmeline must compete for an Irish club at these championships, and so she competes as a Renmore gymnast. Em always enjoys and thrives at competitions when she has her team mates and friends around her, therefore the last couple of competitions have been a new challenge for her. However she is dealing with the pressure well and during this competition was clearly making friends with the girls from Ireland that she will be competing with for a long time! Lets hope this helps and she can continue to improve and one day achieve her goal to compete for Ireland.

Emmeline competed in her first ever Irish competition in December and due to her fab results has achieved this place!

Emmeline must be affiliated to an Irish club and we have chosen a great club in Renmore Gymnastics. Emmeline achieves this place along with Ellen Hynes who is also from Renmore.

Kieran how has a fan page on facebook. Please “like” his page if you want to keep up to date on his road to London 2012!

We have regualrly posted news on Kierans fab results in 2011, and we have saved the best till last!!

This weekend he competed in his final World Cup series event on floor, and decided he didnt want another bronze or silver, so he brought home the gold!! Results from the world series in 2011 are all put togther to give overal rankings for the year and Kieran has come out in FIRST PLACE!!! Many Congratulations to Kieran and his coaches!

But thats not all…

We have recently been told that Kieran has secured his place to be able to compete in the Olympic Test event in January, known as London Prepares! This is a final qualification event to get a place for the Olympics in London! All at Tolworth are so pleased! Since finding out we have seen Kieran work flat out in the gym so he has the best chance of qualifying. 

Good luck in all your preparation Kieran… sorry you dont get a Christmas break though!

Emmeline has now qualified to the All Round Final and 3 Apparatus Finals.

Emmeline must be a member of an Irish Club to be able to compete in Ireland and Tolworth has found a lovely club who have welcomed us with open arms.  Many thanks to Renmore Gymnastics Club.

One day Emmeline hopes to represent Ireland and be successful like our many Irish lads!

Level 4

Anna Lewis competed as part of the South East team which finished 6th. She also bettered her previous national rank and came 23rd. Anna has only been doing elite gymnastics since January and has improved massively within the year. She has a great attitude within competitions, so this ranking is sure to keep getting better.

Level 3

Maia and Amelia also competed as part of the South East team and this team took the Gold! This team has taken three out of the four possible team golds over the past two years (plus one silver!), and Maia and Amelia have always been part of the team.

Individually Amelia came 6th in the combined and Maia came 11th. Both girls have worked very hard over the past year and everyone at Tolworth is very proud of their result.

Level 2

Emmeline Anghileri came 17th AA and showed some great improvements to her routines.

Xayla-Rae competed in her first ever national final and came 22nd. Xayla-Rae suffered a broken finger earlier on in the session and has only been back to full training for 3 weeks, so this is a great achievement.

Very well done to all gymnasts and their coaches.

Many of us were present to witness the wonderful wedding, and while the photos were being taken, Jos squad group came to surprise her with gifts.

It was a fabulous day and we wish Jo and Dan Acutt all the happiness in the world!!!!

Our time finally came for us to warm up. After a quick change the girls went to practice their routine in the warm up hall.  The team were performing their Billy Elliot routine for the first time, and I have never seen them do it better!! For some of the girls this was their first festival and they did brilliantly. They defiantly saved the best till last!

In the under 13 Regional F Naomi Katiyo came 3rd,Naomi has only just moved up to this grade and only just missed the qualifying score to move up to Regional E!

In the under 13 Regional E Jemma Gray also came 3rd and also just missed moving up to Regional D! Jemma competed very well and included her full twisting back somi for the first time. Naomi and Jemma are only 9 and were competing against girls up to the age of 12!

In the under 15 Regional E Allie completed the trio with another 3rd place! Allie however scored high enough to qualify up to Regional D,something she has being trying to achieve for a while now so well done Allie!

Maia Grady, Evie Anghileri and Sian Miligan also competed extremely well and weren’t far behind the others!

Chris O’Connor is an Irish citizen. He would of placed 2nd In the all around, missing first by 0.05! He would also of won Floor and Pbars.

Senior

Geoff Rellis took part in 4 events and scored enough to represent Ireland at the North Euros in November. This was his first event back after a serious injury.

“I can’t believe it, I am over the moon,” Kieran said.

“It feels fantastic, like a dream,” he continued.

Kieran qualified in third place and maintained his performance in the final to ease his way on to the medal podium.

He said: “I was so nervous, more than I have ever been, but I just thought …show off my routine and do my best.

“Then I couldn’t believe it when I finished, I looked up and saw third.”

This result comes at the perfect time, just ahead of the 2011 Tokyo World Championships and will boost Kieran’s World ranking

Tolworths Antony O’Donnell also took part, performing well on the Rings, But falls on floor and Vault cost him a potential place in finals.

Ant is soon to lead a young Irish team to the North Europeans in Sweden, in a team that will also feature some of Tolworth other Irish stars, Chris O’Connor and Geoff Rellis.

We would like to wish all our gymnasts good luck in their up and coming comps!

Jack qualified to two finals, the All Round and P bars, he was also the reserve for pommel.

In true Jack style, Jack competed cleanly in all his finals to finish with amazing results…

• Anna Lewis came 33rd…. not bad since she has only been at elite level since January!
• Becky Bell fought hard and finished with a “show stopping” floor to take the title, becoming the British Compulsory 4 Champion!

The South East team again came 2nd

Compulsory 3

• Imani Davis came 12th at her first grades national final
• Amelia Montague came 6th for the second year in a row!
• Maia Anderson came 3rd for the Bronze medal

All were in the South East team and they helped to take the Team Title.

All Team scores were added up over the two weekends, and the South East came out on top to take the Rosebowl Trophy. This is the first time in a long time that the South East has won this title and along with other club’s gymnasts our girls all helped to achieve this.

Very well done to all gymnasts and coaches…. another very successful weekend for Tolworth!

Friday

On Friday the younger of our gymnasts competed. Aasha Kimpton came 3rd overall and came 2nd on floor. Aasha had some unfortunate mistakes but showed some beautiful work and debuted her own move on the beam: a gainer free cartwheel.

Millie Kennard came 4th overall and came 1st on the beam, making her the English Beam Champion

Olivia Reeve only competed two pieces but came 2nd on vault and was one of only two to compete a release and catch move on the bar (Aasha was the other!).

Sam Morey came 3rd on Rings and 2nd on floor (only 0.05 behind 1st!). Sam showed solid landings on two very difficult tumbles.

Saturday

On saturday it was the turn of our senior Men. Two of our gymnasts were only competeing as guests as they are Irish.

Alex Polland achieved a personal best on the high bar and he came 26th overall. Alex was one of the youngest in this category and was competing against much older gymnasts that have competed and won medals at Commonwealth, World and even Olympic Championships.

Chris O’Conner was competeing as a guest and showed good clean lines work with only few errors. He again is a very young gymnast in this category, and was using this comp to test out his new routines.

Kieran Behan was also a guest and only competed on three apparatus. However he showed a stylish and difficult floor that put him in third place, along side top international level gymnasts. Kieran should not have technically recieved a medal as he was the guest however a technical error meant that he was called up for third place! Eventually the correct gymnast was awarded third, but when kieran went to give the medal back he was told he was allowed to keep it as he had shown an amazing floor and they thought he deserved it! He also competed his handspring double front on vault for the first time. Kieran is the first Irish gymnast to have ever competed this move.

A massive Congratualtions to all gymnasts and coaches!

The upper level of the extension is still being worked on and will be our pommel and conditioning room. Moving the pommels upstairs will give us more room in the main gym.

Nice straight Tsuk full twist on vault. On floor he did a huge double Arabian with back with 1.5 twist to finish. Clean high bar with Veronin release and catch safely caught.With just one fall on Pommels Anthony had a great competition, and is now looking forwards to  trials for the Euros next  year.

Anthony says ” I had an amazing experience at the Worlds and was glad to have improved on my performance at the Europeans in April, which wasn’t as good as I could have wished for. Thanks to my Club and personal coaches, and the change of pace as I go back to my day job next week as a builder should be interesting!”

Kieran Behan, 21, scored 37.866 for three pieces, ( Rings, P-Bar and High Bar).

From having a tough year, snapping his ACL just before the Europeans in April, Kieran took part in the 3 events WITHOUT dismount due to his knee not being fully recovered post surgery, which puts his start values down by 0.9.

Solid Maltese and Azarian on rings. Parallel bars saw him do Stutz, Bilozerchev (stutz to one bar) combination with glide kip through L sit to handstand. Straight Markalov, then a fall on Tkatchev on high bar was quickly recovered as he repeated the skill and then performed Rybalco, Healy to el grip to complete his routine.

Kieran says ” This was the best gymnastic experience of my life, I couldn’t have got there without the help and support of  Tolworth Gymnastics Club, especially my personal coaches, Si, Jimmy and Daz. I can’t wait now to get back to full fitness and compete on all 6 pieces at next years Europeans.”

The boys did excellently and Tolworth is very proud to have them within their squad.

Tolworth Staff members Simon Gale and “Jimmy” Demetrious Bradshaw were selected to go as the Irish National Team Coaches, again doing Tolworth extremely proud at this level of competition.

Simon says ” I couldn’t of ever dreamt when I first started coaching, that I would be putting a gymnast up at the Worlds at the age of 31. It is an honour to be selected by Irish Gymnastics and I had an amazing time. ”

Jimmy says ” It was amazing to have the Worlds as my first international competition as a coach. Really proud of our lads and the experience from the training halls to competition arena . I would also like to thank Irish Gymnastics for the opportunity.”

Grace travelled with the team and they stayed together all weekend in a hotel near to the venue. She competed in the first 2 rounds and scored a great total of 54.1, this qualified her for the final in 15th place. She then competed an awesome routine in the final, which moved her up to an amazing 9th place overall!

Grace was competing against senior members of the GB team so this was an incredible place to finish in.
